Battery is charging at the moment but so far so good, the 70-200 2.8 indeed does get better results than the 350D was able to but below f4 it's still too flary for print usage or selling photos so I'm going to sell it and get the F4L IS
I love the shutter sound, it's just way more pleasing than the motory sound of the 350D
The 430EX seems to give better results on the 40D as well which was surprising.

enjoy the 40D, the flash probably seems better because the running gear in the 40D is slightly better tuned than a 350D.....
just my 2 bits!

If i knew how to take a good photograph I'd do it every time
I want a Hasselblad H1D
Also considering the F4 L IS has a 4 stop IS gyro setup compared to the 3 stops of the 2.8 makes it more ideal at f4 and half the wiehgt in total for me.
These are the 2 main criteria I made my decision to get the F4 instead really :/

Don't be so quick to dismiss that f2.8 yet. It is a workhorse of the professionals for a good reason. Very popular with wedding photographers. The difference in IS between them in practice doesn't seem to be all that much (especially as the 2.8 is a full stop brighter).
It can also be coupled with teleconverters, when needed.
If you will not be shooting in dim light or not need as shallow depth of field as possible then go for the f4, but if you want as fast a shutter speed as possible, need to work in low light, avoid higher ISOs or want to do portraits (typically with shallow DOF), then you may want to hang on to the 2.8.
If none of that matters and you're wanting a lighter lens (a blessing for hand holding) for working with then f4 would likely be good too.
It is a hard choice at times.

Now if it is a lens fault I would not mind sending it to Canon for recalibration or repair if it can be fixed which is why I'm after samples at 2.8 from other people first
